Director of Dairy

Objective:
Kinnard Farms Incorporated, a fifth-generation family-owned Dairy and Crop farm located in Northeast Wisconsin, is currently looking to add a full-time Director of Dairy to our team. Kinnard Farms’ mission is to produce a superior quality product by taking exceptional care of our most important resources; employees, cattle, land, and water.

We are early adopters of technology and care for our Dairy Herd in two state-of-the-art dairy facilities. We also own and operate the Kinnard Farms calf nursery, which prepares calves for travel to our calf and heifer ranch in Colorado.

The Director of Dairy will develop and implement production systems that allow our team and our herd to remain industry leaders. The Director of Dairy will create and implement training programs, develop effective monitoring systems, and produce reporting systems that promote growth amongst our team.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement systems of wellness that focus on prevention rather than treatment
  • Develop and implement training programs, mentor employees to excel in leadership roles, and create performance indicators to allow leaders to monitor and evaluate teams
  • Assist our local veterinary clinic on Herd Health days
  • Monitor cow comfort and evaluate conditions inside all areas where cows are housed
  • Evaluate hoof health
  • Daily check-in with Feed, Herd, and Maternity Managers to ensure open communication and teamwork
  • Monitor calf nursery to assist the manager with employee training and maintaining calf health and wellness
  • Monitor herd performance sheets and report key performance indicators to the team
  • Evaluate performance of night-shift teams

Qualifications / Experience Required

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is required
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Minimum of 4 years of real-world experience with large herd management
  • Formal Dairy Science education is a plus, but not required
  • Strong animal health and diagnostic skills
  • Familiarity with Dairy Comp, Pocket Cow Card, and Parlor Boss is required

Other Personnel

The Director of Dairy will work closely with our local Veterinary Clinic and consulting veterinarians. This position will also work closely with our existing team of on-site managers, including a Herd Manager, Feed Manager, Maternity Manager, Calf Depot Manager, and a team of Milk Harvest Leaders.
