SUMMARY:

The Field Operations Team Member will work closely with the Outdoor Manager to properly care for all the fields that grow the forages for our cows.  This position will work with a team of other Field Operations Team Members and Outdoor Manager on other projects when not in cropping season.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of modern agricultural machinery used to grow, harvest and store crops
  2. Knowledge of the traditional forages grown for dairy rations – mainly corn and alfalfa
  3. Possess or able to obtain CDL 
  4. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  5. Possess strong time management and organizational skills
  6. Be self- motivated and detailed oriented
  7. Ability to work as a team as well as individually
  8. Ability to perform your duties at a very high standard

DUTIES:

  1. Will work with the team to plant, apply crop protection and harvest crops
  2. Will work the team to ensure that feed is put into storage at the highest possible quality and quantity
  3. Will work with the team in maintaining all daily maintenance of cropping machinery
  4. Will aid in the repair and maintenance of machinery as needed
  5. Will operate and maintain semi tractors used to move forages around the dairy
  6. Will work with the team for all snow removal
  7. Will assist in off season projects 
    1. Light construction
    2. Emergency repairs on facilities and equipment
    3. Tile line installation and other land improvements needed
  8. Other duties as assigned

WORK RELATIONSHIP:

The Field Operations Team Member directly reports to the Outdoor Manager.  The successful applicant will work closely with the whole Field Operations Team and the Shop Manager to ensure proper care of the equipment.  The Field Operations Team will maintain open communication with all employees at Kinnard Farms.

WORK CONDITIONS: 

During the cropping season, (April 15 through December 1), work week will be Monday through Friday with the possibility of every other weekend.  Weekend duties will be split between the Field Operations Team Members.  We strive to not work Sundays if at all possible, but we are weather dependent.  Planting usually continues even on Sundays if the sun is shining.  We strive to have our harvests completed during the normal work week.  Typical days would be 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM.  These days will be longer during cropping cycles.  Start times and finish times can be altered on days where you have other obligations, as long as we are able to plan a week in advance.  

During the off-season, we work Monday through Friday 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM.  We attempt to not have our outdoor team here on weekends throughout the off-season.  The exception is for the snow removal team and for the very rare emergencies.
