The Shop Mechanic  will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on the extensive lineup of machinery used at Kinnard  Farms. The Shop Mechanic will work closely with the Shop Service Manager to schedule and perform this  work. This position requires a person with excellent mechanical abilities.  

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  1. Possess strong mechanical skills and be able to troubleshoot and correct mechanical problems. 2. Experience with semi-truck and trailers, large farm tractors and implements, skid steers, pay loaders, hydraulics, diesel engines & fuel systems. Fabrication / Welding experience is a plus but not required. 
  2. Excellent verbal communication skills.
  3. Have strong organizational skills and is detail orientated.
  4. Is self-motivated and possess a positive attitude.
  5. Ability to work well with others or alone.
  6. Ability to perform mechanical work to a very high standard. 

DUTIES: 

  1. Will keep a clean and well-organized shop. Tools should all have a designated storage area, making it  easier to find and keep inventory of tools. 
  2. Perform repairs, with and without the assistance from the Shop Service Manager. Will be on call for  emergency repairs in a rotation. This will be dependent on the seasons and will be tied into the field  operations teams schedule as well as the other team teams on the farm. Most emergencies can be  prevented by proper maintenance so this is a rare occurrence. 
  3. Will work with Shop Service Manager and machine operators to perform routine maintenance on all  machinery. 
  4. Every time a service is performed, clearly label machine with hours or date at which next service  will be necessary. This enables machine operators to determine at a glance if a machine is due  for service. 
  5. Communicate with operators to determine best time to perform necessary repairs and/or  maintenance. Most machines have regular scheduled hours of operation. Maintenance and  repair work should be scheduled to not interfere with these schedules.

  1. Keep accurate records of all machinery. A work order must be filled out for each machine that is in the  shop, for both repairs and maintenance. 
  2. Perform scheduled checks on skid loaders and payloaders located at Site 1, Site 2, Feed Center and  Calf Depot. This utilizes a check off sheet that tracks fluid levels of engine oil, hydraulic oil and coolant.  Record engine hours, greasing the equipment, checking lights, tire condition, machine operation and  inspecting for any leaks or damage that needs to be reported. 
  3. Perform scheduled checks, at the feed center, on the feed delivery trucks, weigh back tractor and  wagons and semis used for hauling feed including the trailers. This utilizes a check off sheet that  tracks fluid levels of engine oil, hydraulic oil, and coolant. Record engine hours, greasing the  equipment, checking lights, tire condition, machine operation and inspecting for any leaks or damage  that needs to be reported. 
  4. Perform weekly checks of the stationary generators used for emergency power when the electrical  system fails. This utilizes a check off sheet that tracks fluid levels of engine oil, coolant, and fuel.  Record engine hours, check for controller codes, confirm that on board heaters and chargers are  operational and inspecting for any necessary maintenance items that need attention. 8. WORK RELATIONSHIP:  

The Shop Mechanic reports directly to the Shop Service Manager.  

WORK CONDITIONS:  

The Shop Mechanic is a full-time position, normally working 10-hour days. For the first 60 days, the Shop  Mechanic will work most of the hours alongside the Shop Service Manager, as training. After the first 60 days,  the Shop Service Manager will develop a schedule that staffs the shop from 5:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday  through Friday.
